One important issue is safety, and at Massachusetts Hockey we take the safety of our players, coaches, administrators and all others very seriously.
We continue re-enforcing safety at all levels of our Coaching Clinics.
It is simply the right thing to do.
Massachusetts Hockey is proud to be the leader in dealing with spinal cord injury. Printing and Distributing over 100,00 brochures, putting posters in every rink in Massachusetts and distributing over 500 video's.
The Mass Medical Association, MIAA and Mass Hockey have combined forces to produce two new brochures. Heads Up, Don't Duck! and now
Concussion in Ice Hockey  ( Click Here for brochure ordering form).

We have begun the work on several more brochures, dealing with such issues as, aids in hockey, mouth pieces, concussion, CPR and drug abuse.

We are committed to getting the word out.
In the near future we will be working on a brochure for the proper method of protecting yourself from HIV.

Heads Up, Don't Duck !
Massachusetts Hockey produced the first brochure dealing with spinal cord injury.
Yes, a low budget item, but loaded with good information.
Re-produced for other affiliates it was the catalyst for the hockey world to address the health issues confronting our athletes.
This, is just one more reason why Massachusetts Hockey is a leader in the hockey community.

HIV In Hockey
One quarter of all new HIV infections in the United States today are estimated to occur in young Americans between the ages of 13 - 20 according to Patricia Fleming of the Office of National AIDS Policy for the White House. That means two Americans under the age of 20 become infected with HIV every hour of every day.

Concussion In Ice Hockey
If a player receives head trauma, a coach should perform a bench evaluation to determine Concussion. If symptoms are prevalent, seek medical attention immediately. It is not macho to send or allow that player back into the game without a doctors permission. It is just plain stupid and dangerous. Head injuries
(Concussion) can be fatal if not treated properly....

Fluid Replacement
Is it necessary for athletes to drink fluids during exercise, or will this fluid cause the athlete to "drag," that is, not to perform as well ? Restricting fluids during exercise could actually cause a DECREASE in the athlete's performance, and could cause serious medical problems to an athlete.
